This award, created in 2000, celebrates its sixth edition in 2010.The award was born in order to recognize and promote the public character of urban spaces, as well as their capacity for social cohesion. Assuming the ambiguities of the notion of public space, the award is the unique in Europe that recognizes and promotes a public space while (open and universal acces) and urban. In this way, the prize is distinguished from other initiatives focusing on the architect figure and from the devoted landscape awards, to emphasize the relational character and civic of the spaces tipically urban.
